Big Bend is a massive park, but much of it can be accessed by road. Many trailheads are next to the pavement and some roads, such as the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive, are attractions in themselves.

This is a steep road of sudden curves, but the descent at the end into the Basin is well worth the drive. The drive itself is well-worth the drive - you'll rise out of the desert into a mountain landscape. In fact, this road climbs almost 6,000 feet.
