Taxco, Mexico Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Climbing the flanks of green mountains in central Mexico, the city of Taxco is with woven through by winding streets and adorned with historic architecture. Once an important silver mining town, modern Taxco is the sort of picturesque place that calls for constant camera use. White walls capped with bright red roofs lend color to the gentle climbing sweep of the city.

Though Taxco's silver vein is mostly played out, visitors can still enjoy a history of this metal at the silver museum, Museo de la Plateria, and take home a souvenir from one of the many shops that specialize in silver goods.

Weighed down by precious metals, set out to explore the city on foot. Linger at the Plaza Borda to admire the ornate interior of the Santa Prisca Parish, and then pay a visit to the religious art museum, Museo de Arte Virreinal, at Casa Humboldt.

Don't miss a trip via cable car to the hilltop resort commanding views down over the city.

Taxco is 100 miles from Mexico City.
